Hat Shop Mystery
review 1: This is the second in a new series featuring Scarlett Parker and her cousin Vivian Tremont, who have inherited their grandmother's hat shop in Notting Hill. Scarlett comes from Florida, where her British mother and American father raised her, while Viv is a native Londoner. When a client hires the girls to provide whimsical hats for an Alice in Wonderland inspired hospital fundraiser, they are enchanted to design the headgear, until the host family's heir is poisoned at the gala and the band of one of their hats seems to be the delivery mechanism. Naturally, they feel they must aid the police investigation so that they can clear the name of their shop and keep themselves on the right side of Scotland Yard. Aided by their accountant, Harrison, and their apprentice, Fion... morea, the pair investigate the untimely death, sorting through motives and alibis until they uncover the real killer. The London settings are fun and their characters engaging.
review 2: 2014-07-19. Reading this on flight over to the UK was great. Although I didn't hit any of their haunts, I really enjoyed getting into the British mindset. I love how Scarlett (raised in the US) still has issues with her Americanized ways versus the British despite how much time she has spent there. This was great fun with all the "Alice in Wonderland" hats and quirky family who came to them for the hats. Scarlett, of course, is right in the thick of trouble as murder rears it's ugly head. Very entertaining. less
