review 1: I dug this one. The first is still my favorite (and hands down the best written piece of the lot), but this one was much better than the others. That might have a lot to do with the hero, Daniel. Daniel was one of the best characters in the other books, and Ashley really made him shine here. He's mature, open, honest, kind, and engaging. Likewise, Ashley's depiction of a scarred, emotionally abused woman was also quite well done. Violet annoyed me at times, but her behavior fit a believable pattern, and she wasn't overtly irritating.
review 2: This is a romance set in the late Victorian era - so it has both hot air balloons and motorcars, and the refinement and finery of a historical romance. Violet is a fraud and a sort of medium, while Daniel is a wealthy Sc
... moreot. Their paths cross in London and their romance takes them to France and back. The book felt a little long to me. I felt like things were pretty well resolved about halfway through, but our hero and heroine continued the good fight against those that would keep them apart. Set a little later than I typically prefer (Regency), but still a good story. less
