review 1: On the night of her coming out, Isabella elopes with Roland "Mac" Mackenzie - younger brother of Duke Hart Mackenzie. But this book doesn't begin there. Instead, Ashley takes us 6 years into the future after Isabella and Mac have been separated for 3 years. As the reader learns in book 1 of this series (featuring youngest Mackenzie brother Ian and his now wife Beth), the Mackenzie brothers had a horrific childhood that left them all with issues. Add to that each of their unique abilities/intelligence and it becomes apparent that they have trouble fitting in with proper society - sometimes running wild causing multiple scandals or using their talents - Mac is a gifted painter - to their own ends. Isabella and Mac loved and still love each other, but Mac's alcoholism and fre... morequent disappearances damaged their marriage. The appearance of paintings with Mac's signature but Isabella's certainty that they are forgeries brings them back together. The parts of this book concerning the romance are 5 stars. The chemistry between Mac and Isabella is fantastic. The way Ashley slowly reveals their back-story throughout is very well written. The relationship between the brothers is also very well done in these first two books. Unfortunately, the villain and mystery parts of the books were a bit ridiculous.
review 2: Great read. It is a really unique plot line and overall book, which made it immensely enjoyable. I like that Mac and Isabella were in love from the start and you could tell since they had been married for years. But because of the problems in their marriage and their three year separation, there was still the development of a deeper love like any other romance. And once again, Ashley's characters are incredibly wonderful and dynamic. The Scottish heritage came out a lot more in this novel than in her first, which I just adored. Got to love those Scottish references and accents, even if you can't actually hear them!I also was fascinated by the forger who produces the main conflict of the novel and served as a - to me - wholly original issue. That someone could persuade themselves to believe a deception that thoroughly is slightly terrifying and definitely captivating for the reader. Yet again, Ashley gives the reader a wonderful, entertaining, and heart warming tale that is thoroughly enjoyable. Now, on to the next one!!! less

I REALLY liked this book! It took me a long time to come around to it because I read the first one in the series and wasn't too sure about it. However, seeing the characters from the first book in this one was nice! But I digress. I love how many real issues were dealt with in this story and how they didn't just get glossed over or tied up prettily at the end; the characters worked on their relationship and came through problems together. Add in lots of humor, the leading man as an artist and some interesting subplots and you have yourself a really good book! Can't wait to start the next in the series!

Liked most everything about this book. Mac was awesome and Isabella was mostly endearing. The only part I wasn't happy with is that Isabella seemed so stubborn about letting Mac back in. I know he screwed up and needed to change, but he did long before she took him back. He was always faithful, kept her financially and really changed himself so much and it seemed like she just wouldn't accept his changes as real. She bore some responsibility in their marriage too and to me she took a while to understand that, if she really did. But really still loved the book and ad always Ian was my real favorite!
