review 1: A Splash of Red is good book to give to children that are not interested in reading bibliography books. This book is about an African American man named Horace who is an aspiring artist and moves to New York. He realizes he is very good at drawing and starts to draw for a living. As life goes he goes through challenges that stop him from drawing. This book is very eye appealing to the reader, especially a young reader. The moral of this book is to not give up on something that you want even when it seems impossible. Horace Pippin proved that he worked hard to get what he wanted and to start drawing again. This book could be great for students to get them to read biographies.
review 2: In our opinion, this picture book biography is a home run hit. There is just
... moreenough story on each page: not too little, so younger readers get enough details, and not too much, so they aren't overwhelmed. The artwork is simply wonderful: colorful, interesting, and fun to look at. The story itself is superbly told; Horace Pippin, one of the lesser known artists of the last century, is someone who showed much talent, determination, and bravery--a great role model for kids to read about. Highly recommended. less
