review 1: Quite a story spanning generations... explores the idea of how far would you go to see your child or loved one, one last time, after the grief of their death. It is definitely well crafted, I enjoy the way McMahon unfolds the story, in pieces and not necessarily in a linear fashion, and from different points of view. I found that I did basically guess the ending, which made it less powerful for me, but didn't ruin my enjoyment. This was fun and kept me turning pages the whole time.
review 2: 3.5 stars. A horror story on the right side of psychological thriller. The story was compelling and the fantasy elements were told well enough to keep them believable. The character of Candice was a bit flimsy and I found her motivation a little weak but all the other
... more leading characters were well drawn. I would have given this book an extra star if there had been a rational explanation at the end, but that is my bias of course. less
