review 1: A solid crime novel which could easily fall into the boiler-plate "Whodunnit?" category, but McMahon is clearly more interested in the sometimes painful relationships between mothers and daughters, along with the trials of being a teenager, than in detective fiction. The book tends to easily fall into the paint-by-numbers trope which plagues most crime novels, in terms of both plot, writing style, and characterization, especially in the last few chapters. But McMahon mines her heart for some truth and while sometimes predictable, the novel still manages some legitimate tension and pathos.
review 2: An excellent crime story that thrills you with each turning page. Once the story was laid out I couldn't put this book down. It moves back and forth from the prese
... morent to the past consistently connecting each of the characters. And McMahon does a great job of hiding who the killer is until the very end which adds to the suspense that is seen throughout the book. There are a few holes that I wish would have been filled in. For example, what exactly happened to Tara after Sid's accident? But other than that this was a great read! less

Good suspense, had me til the end. Characters not too likeable. All in all a good read.

Meh. Not nearly as compelling as McMahon's other books.

Was readable until the end. Then ridiculous.
