review 1: This book is impossible to put down because the initial premise is so intriguing (12-yr-old girl goes missing and 15 years later, a series if strange events start happening) and the mystery just deepens and deepens. The question of whether there is a supernatural element adds to the intrigue. My main complaint is that the author threw in so many mysteries and questions and twists and turns that the ending felt like a manic attempt to find an explanation for everything, kind of like she was digging her way out of a hole she'd created. So although I enjoyed reading most of the book, the ending was a bit of a disappointment.
review 2: I really liked how this book kept me guessing the whole time. I felt like the prologue was oddly narrated and didn't really set the
... more stage or tone for the rest of the book. If the whole book was like the prologue, I probably would have enjoyed it a lot less. The whole mysterious childhood summer that Sam, Lisa, and Evie shared was really compelling, and I never knew which way it was going to go; if it was a fantasy or just an abduction. I would have liked to get to know Phoebe's and even Sam's characters a little more, but I liked how the story developed. The ending left me unsettled, but not exactly in a bad way! Really, really intriguing and mysterious! less
