review 1: This is a harder review to write because I FLOVE Jennifer Probst. I think my only hang-up on this one is that I didn't quite connect with Carina in this book. She is just so not like me, that I struggled with it. Her obsession with sex and her bluntness is different. She's not afraid to speak about her desire to lose her virginity and she doesn't care who she loses it to, though she prefers someone like Max. Max... oh, Max. I think I love you. When you speak, I listen. ;)My inability to connect with Carina does NOT take away from the book. It's still a stellar read and definitely worth checking out! I can't wait to dive into book 4!!
review 2: i have a new appreciation for italian endearments :3 Other than that, this story was predictable, cheesy, same... more old plot structure (you know, initial hatred/pretend-to-be-aloof, immediate sexual tension, sex, then conflict, and all the rest), not a lot of build-up, but it was kind-of an okay read for those days when you need to just read something mushy. The smut was meh. And the contractions: "He'd", "She'd" were annoying. Just write "He would" or "She would" like a normal person. (Maybe, I'm being too picky but when you're reading something like a third-person narrative, it matters that it's more formal.)Ultimately, you have to feel connected to your characters and what drives them. While Carina and Max made their best effort and could be taken genuinely, it just felt flat to me. Now, Micheal and Maggie's love, I felt the sizzle and genuineness of their feelings for each other. Even in this, their relationship shone through in small moments. Oh damn, I'm gonna miss those suckers. But Max and Carina didn't inspire a lot. They were sweet though. Sometimes. less
