review 2: This is the second in the series of the "bad boy"McBride brothers. Owen is an attorney in the small town of Fallbrook. His brother Brody has settled nicely into his new role of father and loving partner of Rain and Owen is very happy to return to being the favorite uncle of Brody
... moreand Rains adorable daughters. Owen is dealing with a divorce between the local town drunk and suspected abuser of his wife and it's getting messy. Dale, the husband, has accused Owen of having an affair with his wife Shannon who is becoming more and more dependent on Owen and his kindness and protection. It all comes to a head when Dale, after a day of drinking goes to a home he mistakenly believes is Owen's and frightens and actually injures Claire Walsh, the young woman who lives there. Owen is awakened by his cousin Dylan the sheriff, with the news of Claire's injury and the cause. He runs to her side, and escorts her to the hospital, feeling responsible for her injuries. Claire Walsh is the owner of Claire's Cafe and Bookstore. She has just moved into her home and hasn't even unpacked. Now she is afraid to stay there by herself. Owen felt a strange pull when he saw her waiting to be transported to the hospital. The pull gets stronger when he brings her home and stays with while she slept to keep her safe. Claire felt the attraction also, but seeing him in her shop with two little girls assumes he's married. That assumption is quickly resolved when Owen explains they are his favorite nieces'. Owen is bound and determined to keep Claire safe, and if possible in his life. Claire, somewhat jaded from a divorce from a cheating husband who left her broke, is a little more cautious. The romance is sweet, Owen is unshakeable in his attraction and desire to keep her, forever. Claire is trying to convince herself she is not falling in love. Outside forces make their lives dangerous, and a series of unexplainable accidents add to the suspense, and push them closer to each other. An unexpected twist adds a great ending. I have enjoyed both McBride brothers books, and it looks like Sheriff Dylan McBride is next. Looking forward to his story.
