review 1: 3.5 stars.I've become a recent fan of Jennifer Ryan's books. I've been really liking The Hunted series. The books have caught me from the first and the characters are very likeable. Also, Ms. Ryan does what I very much like. She has past characters make prominent and multiple appearances. I'm one of those crazy book fans that like seeing past characters and know how they're doing. This book was good and I want to preface my review by saying that the plot couldn't have been done differently. It would've changed the dynamics of all the connected threads. However, with that being said, what I didn't like was the behavior of the hero. He was, to put it plainly, a real asshole to the heroine throughout the entire book. Again, it couldn't be helped. It had to be this way in order... more for the plot to go the way it did. With that being said, it doesn't mean that I was endeared to the character. If you know the synopsis of the book, the main character, Cameron Shaw is told by his gold-digging girlfriend that she's pregnant. She's obviously not, but she convinces him just with words that she is. The heroine and rest of the characters tell him plainly that he's being an idiot and to get real proof, but the hero is a moron and goes on the gold-digger's words. True enough that later in the book she presents Cameron with a doctored lab report that says she's pregnant, but to me, I couldn't help but continue to dislike the hero. I'm a big fan of Harlequin Presents novels. All the heroes in those novels are jaded, cynical billionaires. I couldn't help but remember those heroes. They wouldn't have just sat and let the gold-digger bring him the proof. Those Harlequin Present heroes would've wanted to be there at the doctor's appointment. Or heard from the doctor themselves that the woman was pregnant. Even then, a DNA test would've been demanded. Not to be ba roken record, I again know that none of this could've been done because it was necessary for the hero to be so gullible. We know from his past that he's blinded by the idea of a wife and whole family unit, rather than wanting to listen to the sound words of his friends. To add to that, he keeps treating the heroine like his mistress. To cap it off, when the gold-digger assaults the heroine, the hero is told that it was the heroine that was the attacker. The hero foolishly believes it. Naturally, in the end at the twelfth hour the wedding is stopped and the gold-digger is sent on her way. I just feel unsatisfied with the punishment. Or lack there of. The gold-digger assaulted and caused the heroine some nasty injuries, not to mention that she got the hero to pay off her bills. I wonder if the gold-digger, because she's a woman and didn't commit murder or anything really serious, is why she was just sent packing, rather than suffer legal consequences. Yes, I'm a bit bloodthirsty. I just believe those who do wrong should be punished. If the gold-digger hasdn't assaulte the heroine and then lied about it, I might not have such a problem with her just being sent packing. But oh well. What's important is that she was found out for what she was and the heroine and hero found their way to each other. I still can't completely like the hero, but a happy ending is fine. All in all, enjoyed this book and the previous ones in the series. You don't need to have read the previous books, but I would also say before the fourth and final novel, a reader might want to read Lucky Like Us if nothing else. The last book, Chasing Morgan, finally has us meeting the mysterious Morgan, who has been helping the FBI with her psychic visions. Again, it's not mandatory, but you might have a better idea of the character Tyler and Morgan.
review 2: Cameron is a single father of a five year old girl. He is presently dating Shelly. Little does he know she wants him for his name and money so she can live comfortably. Enter Martina with her new found friend in George. He is elderly and dying and his children ignore him. He asks Martina if she will stay with him until the end and she agrees. Cameron is a friend of George's and when he enters a club to dine with Marti Cameron is attracted to her. Shelly enters and tells Cameron she is pregnant with his baby and Cameron feels hes trapped so he agrees to marry Shelly. Marti feels certain that Shelly is lying but he doesn't believe her. There is a lot that goes on over the course of this book. It really held my interest even though it was about 300 pages. I just couldn't put it down. Its a good read less

I sincerely wanted to smack some sense into the hero with a good skillet to the head. Ridiculous.

For right now, all I can say is that Cameron Shaw is an asshole. But I loved every minute.

I think I'd have liked it better if the main characters weren't an asshole & a doormat.
