review 1: I know, I said I wasn't going to after Ultimatum but it was in the library so it's not like I paid for it. Still wasn't worth it. Actually, I thought it was by Hickman and didn't really check - if I had realised it was by Loeb I definitely wouldn't have bothered.So, what happens? Lots of fighting and bickering, lots of recaps and an annoying narrative device where a single character (different each time) provides a background expositionary commentary. Trouble is, each voice sounds the same throughout. And the story is frankly stupid.I quite like Frank Cho but I didn't feel this was his best work. After everything Miller created with the Ultimates, this just seems a further slap in the face. Giving up on the Ultimate universe. Again.
review 2: Frank Cho ... moreis an amazing artist and has always delivered great artwork but it's a shame its wasted on Jeph Loeb's New Ultimates. Jeph Loeb has yet to win back my affections after the horrid Ultimatum and this series although not as bad certainly doesn't redeem him in my opinion.The story is mediocre; I didn't care for the conflict which was silly and the progress of the story was slow and rather boring. Once again characters engage in relationships that aren't crucial to the story; although I did enjoy the shocked look on Thor's face when he sees Hela pregnant. The conclusion is acceptable but this series wasn't necessary it's sole purpose is probably to introduce readers to the characters that will comprise the New Ultimates before Avengers versus New Ultimates hits the stands. less
