review 1: Never have I ever wanted to punch a heroine in the throat as much as I do Maylee. It's actually quite an accomplishment. Although Gretchen comes pretty close in this book, with the way she foists Maylee on Griffin.Griffin is a privileged rich white dude, but not as much of a jerk as he could be. Until he starts falling "in love" with Maylee and turns possessive caveman, because of course. *eyeroll*Maylee tries to ruin his life in the guise of saving him -- a lot of "poor people culture is better than rich people culture" rhetoric but nothing even hinting that she understands that wealth inequality is a structural injustice. It's all "rich people aren't as nice as poor people" which is just.... empty. She demonstrated no ability to comprehend or accept cultural differences ... moreand no ability to see how things work on a big picture level and she's described as being a cute, sweet, ditsy country girl but really she's judgmental and ignorant.I can only assume Griffin is saddled with her for life, but I didn't bother reading to the end to find out because I'm too irritated to care.
review 2: I gobbled this whole series up! I'm a huge sucker for billionaire romances. This is a rather simple and cliche plot but Jessica Clare manages to pull it off very nicely. Maylee was a little irritating at the start but she grows on you. She is a genuine, nice and warm character so it's a little weird to see her with Griffin but she grew on him. Griffin has a bad habit of sticking his feet in his mouth and he is ...an asshole. Their relationship is one slow, uphill battle. I'm quite amazed their relationship actually worked out with them being so different. And even though their relationship proceeded at quite a slow pace, the sexy factor wasn't compromised at all. Nuh-uh, no idea how Jessica Clare does it but she can make the most dull and boring thing look sexy. less
