review 1: Wow, i can't tell you how disappointed I was in this book. I was expecting a big twist at the end that never came. The author took the safe way out and wrapped up the story with a pretty bow. The dead, identical, schizophrenic twin had so much potential and wasn't utilized hardly at all. I thought for sure when he was introduced that he was going to have something to do with the murders. When that didn't happen, I at least expected the other brother to truly be a psycho and we could have been left wondering what his smile to Julia actually meant. Which would have been creepy and perfect but no, the reader is told exactly what it means. Very disappointing, especially when it had a great plot and an incredible amount of potential.
review 2: This was the fir... morest book I read by this author and it was disappointing. The first half was good, but then it departed from "a legal thriller" to digress on the impact of schizophrenia and its devastating consequences. Finally the heroine left her heroic role to become a wimp. I'm not saying it was a bad novel, just that it didn't fit the advertised genre. I'm now trying another by Hoffman to see if this book was a deviation or part of a pattern. less
