review 1: This closes out the series by upping the scale and the stakes, and darkening the plot. With Snow under the Snow Queen's spell, she wreaks havoc on her home kingdom of Alessandria, with Talia and Danielle trying to rescue Danielle's son from her grasp but feeling hopelessly outclassed, even with the mysterious Gerta, Snow's 'sister.' Where the other books in the series are fairly lighthearted, or at least balance the danger with banter, this one really sinks into the mire and was almost a slog to read. It feels fair, and it ends the series in a logical place, but it's still a tougher read than you would expect from the previous books in the series.
review 2: Despite being a little unsure of this series, at first, I really loved them all. The characters were f
... morear from the usual, dull princesses and the plots were innovative. Pretty damn impressive for a set of books based on fairy tales! I loved that there was lesbian romance and that it was not over-sexualised, overly focused on, or marginalised. In general, these books avoid soooo many of the pitfalls that male authors (who write female protagonists) seem to fall into! I also loved how dark the books got - Snow Queen in particular. I was sad to leave the world and I hope that there might be a couple more of these in the future! less
