review 1: A cute story, but I did not enjoy this book as much as it's predecessor (Persephone the Phony). As a lover of mythology, I know that Aphrodite is the goddess of beauty and love, and is almost always portrayed as shallow and vain - so to see this character have some of these traits makes sense. As a main character however, and thus a role-model for the target audience (senior elementary ages), I found the story a little disappointing. There wasn't much for a "big picture lesson" here - jealousy, shallowness, seeing inner beauty but "too bad, too ugly for my tastes, I deserve better because I'm hot". A little excessive. I think the main story could have been told without giving such poor examples to the readers. Nonetheless, there were some redeeming qualities and Aphrodite ... moreis learning and growing from her experiences, so here's hoping she continues to grow as a character in the later books and proves herself a more worthy role-model. I will continue to read the series (each book is told from the perspective of the title character, so I'm not sure when Aphrodite will come back around as lead), and look forward to reading Artemis' story next.
review 2: This is the 3rd book in the Goddess Girls series. As with all the others it's quite short making it a good book for young children to start reading chapter books. In this one Aphrodite decides to give Athena a make-over but when (almost) all the god-boys start paying more attention to her than to Aphrodite can their friendship survive?In this book we meet Hephaestus and the mortals Hippomenes and Atalanta. So far the 2nd GG book is still my favourite (Persephone the Phony) but this is my second fav. My favourite parts were when Hephaestus gave Aphrodite the bracelet and when Aphrodite and Athena were in the shops and Aphrodite tried to pair Mr. Cyclops and the shopping assistant (just because of their number of eyes!) less
