Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-n-Craft Mystery
review 1: Number Four in the Kiki series. I'm not a scrapbooker but this book really inspired me to start seriously thinking about it. So many ways of using it - to display your life, to help your memories, to catch a serial killer!! This was my favorite in the series so far - so many nice little twists that caught me off guard - especially love the final one!! Go Joanna! A really fun, gentle and humorous book that deals with some really hard issues of domestic violence, poverty, drug use, friendships and other family relationships. Makes me rethink my relationships with those around me. Thank you Ms Slan and keep on writing!
review 2: Kiki finds the surprise of her life while dumpster diving. Instead of finding her paycheck that she has accidentally thrown in the trash
... more, she discovers the severed leg of a customer. This gruesome find brings her into contact again with her forbidden love, Detective Detweiler, and his former partner, hunky Detective Hadcho. Solving the supposed murder is difficult when there is no body - only a leg. Things get complicated when Bama's hidden past comes back to haunt her, putting everyone in danger. Kiki is further torn between the hands-off Detweiler and the secure, safe relationship that is budding between her and Ben, the good Jewish favored by her mother-in-law.Kiki is always a good read, with multiple story lines going at the same time. The characters are lovable and interesting. It is easy to relate to Kiki's meager and thrifty circumstances since the murder of her husband, and her job at a scrapbooking store is interesting. The book is interlaced with tips and instructions on scrapbooking projects, and this one also has a yummy couple recipes that I am sure to try. less
