review 1: Where is the dislike button? I have been loving all the books in the series...some more than others.....but all in all, I felt like this was a good series. Then along came Picture Perfect Corpse. I found myself shaking my head many times, wondering WHERE did that come from? People were just randomly introduced, ideas were started (yarn dept.) and then dropped, Zentangle was introduced but not very smoothly. I am a Zentangler myself so I enjoy the hobby but it just didn't seem to have a place in the story other than to try to hook people on it. And......spoiler alert ahead.....don't get me started on the baby being born a Lowenstein....the baby is a Detweiler and should be born as such. But in all my rantings, I have to say that I can't wait for the next book. Maybe... more some of the loose ends will be tied up in the novellas but since I don't have an ereader I will never be able to read those books!
review 2: I really enjoy this series' cast of characters who deal with some tough subject matter, e.g. girls cutting themselves, gay teens, single parenting, overbearing/abusive parents to name a few. Though the series isn't heavy hitting on these subjects, they do a good job of integrating them into the cozy mystery story lines. I do wish that Mert, Kiki's best friend, had more of a presence in this 6th installment and that Kiki's teen daughter Anya had a bit more responsibility with some chores around the house, especially with her newly pregnant mom. less
