review 1: Knihy Johana Theorina nejsou detektivkami v pravém slova smyslu, spíš staví na detektivní zápletce a samotné rozuzlení nebývá tak zajímavé jako samotná atmosféra, kterou je zápletka obehnána. Autor těží z pověstí a mýtů, které se váží k ostrovu Öland, dává je do souvislostí, snaží se nechat čtenáře na pochybách, zda opravdu nějaké ty nadpřirozené věci nezasáhly do dění. V obou předchozích knihách se mi toto pohrávání s atmosférou hodně líbilo, nevadila mi ani nepříliš bombastická zápletka či pointa. Příběhy se moc hezky četly. Zkamenělá krev mě naopak zklamala, tady mi přišlo, že to napřirozeno je tam vsunuto dost násilně a nakonec působí hodně naivně. Zápletka mě nebavila, její rozuzlení bylo... more dost naroubováno a postavy příbehu mě nezaujaly, jednaly dost podivně. Ani atmosféra ostrova tentokrát příběh nezachránila.
review 2: I started this book with anticipation being a fan of Nordic Noir but was alienated almost from the beginning by the clichéd characterisation and the clunky dialogue. The synopsis on the back cover leads you to expect a tightly-written murder mystery, but the story meanders all over the place with people displaying the strangest reactions to the events in their lives – a father, Per, sees his son nearly killed by an out-of-control car, but lets the driver continue his journey after an initial remonstrance. The same man has a seriously ill daughter, but never seems to make any attempt to talk to medical staff in the hospital about her condition. A widower finds his dead wife’s diaries and reads them exceptionally slowly, presumably to allow the readers of the novel time to identify her strange visitor. I am nearly through it and only persisting because I hate to admit defeat and give up on a book, but I am past caring now who did what to whom less
