review 1: The final book in the Ranger's Apprentice series, The Royal Ranger, takes place after an untimely death that destroys Will's life. Everyone worries about him as he lets his thirst for revenge consume him. When all seems lost, Halt decides he must take an apprentice. If being a master of his own apprentice is not hard enough, a simple mission evolves into a web of complexities. Will must put his vengeful feelings aside if he is to succeed, if he still can. This book is very well written. It was a quick read and the plot kept you guessing. It was one of the best of the series and presented a new scenario in which the preceding books were not necessary to follow. Throughout the book, the characters developed well and gained depth. The action scenes were exciting. Overall, it w... moreas a great read and I would recommend it to fans of adventure/action books. I.J. Grade 10CLPK Young Adult Readers Advisory Board Member
review 2: The Royal Ranger was so far the best book I've ever read by John Flanagan; I've followed the Rangers since the very first book when Will was an Apprentice and this one blows them all away! I was engrossed with the book from the moment I read the first chapter to the very last page and I still find myself wishing I could continue on with these characters as always. (So another book would definitely be a cool thing Mr. Flanagan) The writing throughout this entire book never falters. Flanagan is continually pulling the reader into the book and making one feel as if he or she is right there with Will and Maddie as they go through the trials and triumphs throughout the book. I absolutely adored this book! John Flanagan has absolutely outdone himself with this one, and I eagerly await anything that may come from him in the future! less

The book itself is good but it feels like an afterthought since the publication of Lost Stories.

I love this series and while John Flanagan changed directions I ended up liking it.
