review 1: This is the 3rd book on the Amanda Knox trials/subject I have read. It is by far the most detailed. The author presents the information he was able to gather and does not draw any of his own conclusions or offer any opinions about the guild or innocence of Knox and Sollecito. I think this book presents information that Raffaele fails to mention in his own book and was not mentioned in the other book I read by Nina Burleigh. Examples are questions by Judge Massei about why Amanda took a shower in her flat bathroom given that it was cold, the front door was open when she arrived and she saw blood in the bathroom and shit in the toilet. The reporter who dug up the market owner and tramp who claim they saw Knox and Sollecito and did not come forward until approached by the rep... moreort and the reporter when to Magnini the prosecutor. Neither, I believe is a reliable, or credible witness. The fact that seven people could fit in Kercher's room when the defense claimed the room was not big enough to fit more than 3 people. Some questions that I believe still are not answered and I cannot tell if they have been asked. Was any analysis done on the window that was broken to determine which direction the rock came from? If the burglary was staged as Magnini claims Amanda and Raffaele may have tried to break the window from the inside as some other dumb burglars have. Were finger prints found on the rock or the window pane/sill? Is it really possible to clean up a crime scene and leave only the DNA of a third person and completely eliminate your DNA and the DNA of another accomplice (Knox and Sollecito)? This seems to good to be true. All in all Meredith Kercher was murdered and for that I am deeply saddened and I grieve for her family. Does that mean Knox and Sollecito are guilty? I am not certain that the prosecution has proven their case and I believe the defense has done enough to prove reasonable doubt. It seems that the crime was made to fit the evidence and perhaps the evidence was contaminated or falsified to make it fit the crime? I believe it is unfortunate that Knox slandered and implicated Lamumba and I believe she did this under serious duress, and emotional strain brought on by lack of sleep, a poor understanding (at the time) of Italian, and police interrogation techniques. Do Knox and Sollecito have some culpability, maybe? Are they guilty, maybe though I doubt it. I believe Rudy Guede broke into the house through the window, tried to rape Kercher, and murdered her in cold blood either on purpose or by accident and then tried to cover it up and leave the country.
review 2: I was fascinated by the Knox trial from the start and read just about everything I could get my hands on (however , google translate was not sufficient for reading court transcripts!) I read this in 3 days and despite already knowing everything that it contained, it was a great read. the title is accurate: it is the definitive account of the amanda knox case. that being said, it obviously is not the definitive account of the murder of meredith kercher, because there are still so many unanswered questions at the end of the book. I don't think anyone should go into this book thinking that having the facts of the trial will show them what really happened, or who is really guilty. I've always thought Amanda was involved and knew much more than she let on, but never thought she was the one actually inflicting the wounds..for a few chapters, I thought this book may actually convince me she was innocent, but it didn't. I still know Rudy was part of it, but I still think that Amanda and Raffaele know the full truth--and their books probably won't shed any more light on that truth than this one. Of course, it glosses over lots of aspects of the four year saga, but I think it touched on most of the key points, and is *fairly* neutral...It focused a lot on Merediths friends who were convinced Amanda is the killer, which was biased, and I laughed out loud when the prosecutor currently being investigated for his own crime is described as "respected", but so be it, it could've been an accurate description of how people in Italy viewed him despite his trial..That being said, read it because you're interested in the case and it's a great read. Don't come into it with high expectations to get a clear cut verdict or the absolute truth. All we have is the evidence presented, and that's what Follain gives you. less

Such a complicated story...Amanda Knox and Rafaele Sollecito never seemed totally innocent to me.

"Death in Perugia" is the title I'm reading. Must have changed since Amanda was freed on appeal.
