review 1: I love Chew... The book is just awesome. It reminds me of how comics can be fun, entertaining, imaginative, gut wrenching, and just an all around engrossing experience (no pun intended). I love that the creators seem to be having fun with this, and not taking themselves way too serious, as some comics have want to do. The second book lost no steam from the first, and I'm definitely excited for the third book. Rob Guillory's art is fantastic and a perfect match for Layman's writing.
review 2: There an awful lot of layers in here but it's really, really loose both in tone and in overall density. I don't know how Layman keeps so many balls in the air and moves them so quickly. That's not to say that this is an astonishing masterpiece with tremendous meaning.
... more But it's many steps above an "average" story. I sure hope Layman knows where he's going because no one could keep this up on the fly. less
