review 1: Much as I like the writing of John Lescroart, I had to give this book just three stars. I prefer when he writes about Dismas Hardy and his buddy Abe. Dominic Como, who runs a number of do good organizations in San Francisco, is found dead in the sludge left behind when the city's beloved ducks are relocated. Naturally, the question is: who killed him? There are any number of candidates, and before the case is solved, other persons will die or come to harm. Mickey Dade is a likeable young man who helps to solve the mystery.
review 2: The story and plot proved interesting, but the overall development of the characters wasn't completely believable. One of the main characters (an employee of the detective service investigating the murder which begins the stor
... morey) falls in love with one of the murder suspects after having just met her, and immediately believes in her innocence, even though there is enough evidence against her to warrant at least some suspicion. The rest is true of the remaining characters who we don't get to know all that well. Mr. Lescroart's writing style just didn't fully capture me and I wasn't able to become fully invested in the story. However, I was curious as to how it was all going to turn out, and who was going to be identified as the murderer in the end, so that part of the book was enjoyable for me. less

Pretty good for a light read between heavier books. One of my favorite authors.

A fairly good storyline was ruined by "over writing" the ending.

Listened to a recording. Pretty good but not great.
