review 1: Great legal thriller! It’s got loads of action, twists and turns, as well as great realistic characters with their flaws and oddities. It left me uncomfortable with the American justice system at times, because of the single-mindedness of prosecutor and judge. But that was also a strong point of the story. The only downside for me was the side story about the accident with Glitsky’s son, which distracted from the near-brilliant main storyline.
review 2: Talk about getting it completely wrong... And then the murderer being so close to home.... Now I can go to the next Hunt Club book and I know what happened to the people in that business... This was an interesting book but not really up to par as Lescroart's usual writing. There was a lot of character develo
... morepments that I have already seen in Treasure Hunt (thus the reason why I had to stop reading to find out why and where a lot of things were coming from). I would have liked to see more court room magic that Dismas usually does, more wit from him... Yet, not all of the magic elements that I love so much are in this book... it seems a bit darker somehow. I am not saying this is not a good read, just for me, it didn't seem to pull off the magic of the Dismas Hardy San Francisco world that I know and have loved... This doesn't mean I will stop by any means reading these series.... It just means that the next ones will be better. less

Good read. But the ending was not entirely satisfactory - some loose ends for one of the characters.
