review 1: Funny — the 2013 edition (this one) appears to be exactly the same as the 2012 edition with the exception that there is an additional reading. The 2013 edition is 1-25 December; the 2012 edition is 2-25 December. But what a difference a year makes. I really didn't enjoy this book last year. When I saw a 2013 edition, I assumed it was different, so downloaded and read it throughout the Christmas season and thoroughly enjoyed it. The thing that stood out to me this year was the focus on why Jesus came — he came to die for us. That was his entire purpose; God orchestrated events so that his birth fulfilled prophecy and his death fulfilled his requirement for justice for our sin.
review 2: We did this one as a family advent reading. It was over the little kid
... mores heads much of the time (big words and ideas that have to be explained and ironed out before moving on), so you might want something different if you're gearing it towards the under 10 crowd. But at the same time I like books like this because they stretch and call the little ones up a little, and the discipline to just sit and listen to a story you don't find that engaging is always something good to practice. But I enjoyed it. Piper is always passionate and engaging. less
