review 1: I absolutely loved this book. I wish it wasn't, but this book could turn out to be prophetic. From the economic collapse of the United States, to riots, to martial law, to roving gangs, etc. I found it chilling as I couldn't help but think, what if this happened? Would I be one of the survivors, able to adapt to a whole different world, or would I be one of the first to go because "I'm soft?" Looking forward to reading the other books in the series (not direct sequels/prequels, but same post-collapse world).
review 2: Robbers and Gamers and Eaters...This EOTWAWKI novel is particularly frightening because it could so easily happen - soon. The U.S. economy collapses, which brings on anarchy. Starvation, murder, survival of the fittest (or meanest) soon follo... morews."Joshua" follows the tale of The Man and Joshua, a young boy he rescues after the boy's mother is killed. The Man heads out from Tennessee after the collapse of our government, heading to Kentucky and finally Wyoming trying to find family that has survived.This is a dark story along the lines of "The Road" but with much more hope for mankind than "The Road." The Man is a Christian and while he does things he is not proud of to survive and also protect Joshua, he holds on to his faith - in himself and some of remaining mankind.This is an excellently written tale. I enjoy post-apocalyptic fiction and this is a stellar example.NOTE: Be warned there is fairly graphic violence in this book. After all, it is an EOTWAWKI depiction of what might happen when society's laws and safeguards tumble to the wayside.I am off to read "Traveler (Joshua)," a followup to this book. less
