review 1: One of the best books I've ever read. Maybe it's even the best one. John Verdon is a genius. Seriously, he's an amazing author. I couldn't put the book down. I just wanted to read more and more and more. This book is good in so many levels. It's so interesting and it truly keeps your mind with the desire to find out what's going on. Oh and the writing was just so painfully good! Honestly, I enjoyed every sentence and every word. Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK.I can't wait to read the following books of this series.
review 2: This is not really my genre but I was intrigued with the premise and wanted to know how the murderer managed to know his/her victim's thoughts. The mystery itself was interesting and I liked Guerney's character (actually he was at t... morehe same time very likable and very irritating which is good - he had many layers). However, some parts of the book were quite boring, especially the superlong meetings with all the different investigators, and I think there was a lot of repetition in the book, too. The ending was full of suspense, yes, but somehow I was not completely awed by it (and when I read crime literature I want to be awed). It also bugged me that not all of the murder details were explained. Why are the endings hurried in four out of five cases? Now I'm thinking about whether I should read the next book of the series or not. I want to know more about Guerney's marriage and son, for example, but not necessarily about other murder investigations written by Verdon. less
