review 1: It is so hard to believe that this is the author's first novel - it is an amazing book! He writes with a skill that awes me. This psychological thriller grabs you right away, and won't let you go until the very end. And if you can figure out the killer until the author tells you who it is, you're far better at figuring out the countless clues than I was!! I loved how, as a reader, I felt that I was working hand-in-hand with the main character Dave Gurney, to solve this mystery, before the killer strikes again. And how Dave kept saying, "we must be looking at this wrong" and told us why. I will definitely read more of this author!! In fact, I already have his 2nd and 3rd books at hand ready to begin. Congratulations John Verdon - you have an amazing tal... moreent!!
review 2: "Captivating mystery novel which manages (most of the time) to navigate the hurdles that are unprobable plot twists and chain of events and getting stuck in clich??s. This is in spite of the story revolves around a serial killer with a strange m.o. and leaving clues and mocking police, very much in very much in the vein of Silence of the Lambs, Se7en, The Bone Collector, and a thousand others. The characters and writing are also very good. Ending possibly a wee bit disappointing in parts, but bonus points to the author for not dragging it out, but giving a credible and logic end of events. For a mystery/crime novel it is top of the crop. " less
