review 1: I was looking for some books to help with the grieving process after recently losing my precious pet. Going Home: Finding Peace When Pets Die came up in my search. Jon Katz is a bestselling author who primarily writes about dogs.. so this book does have several dog references. But I found that you take what you want from it.. some things were helpful to me and some things weren't. Pet and non-pet owners all have their own feelings on how animals should be treated, and grieving for the loss of pets as well as people is no different. So the author has ideas and suggestions that you may implement in your own life. I found the book helpful. Poems brought a tear or two. I would also suggest to anyone grieving the loss of a pet that there are several websites just on th... moreis topic with very supportive people in the same situation as you are. Just type pet loss in a search box and several sites come up. RIP our beloved furry friends.
review 2: I would highly recommend this book if you have recently or ever experienced the loss of a pet or if you are in a position where a decision needs to be made. It touches on how to prepare yourself. I found it to be simply and clearly written and very comforting. It is good to know you aren't alone in your feelings and many different emotions. Your feelings are justified, but at the same time it helps put the loss in perspective. Jon Katz shares a lot of his personal experiences as well as those of people he knows. There is a chapter on helping children deal with the loss. Also, the importance of being able to love another pet again, even if you know the outcome and how much it hurts. The quote that stuck with me is "when animals die, think not only of them, but also of the people they touched. Of the love and laughter and comfort and companionship they brought to people." Their legacy is to teach us to love unconditionally and make us better human beings. less

This book was OK. The loss of a pet is always something you have to work through.
