review 1: I gave this as much time as I could, but I don't have time to waste on books that just aren't working. For me, the fantasy is labored and convoluted, the characters one dimensional (and often annoying) and I simply don't feel invested enough in any aspect of the story to want to know how it ends. Perhaps one day, in a mythical future when I am flush with free time, I'll try this again. But I'm hardly holding my breath.
