review 1: East of West the story from Jonaathan Hickman was very though provoking and sinister all at once. The story is based in a alternative history of the world set in the future (the years 2050+). With a feeling like the game Red Dead Revolver this story follows cowboys, Native Americans, warriors of different cultures, and characters from Bibical texts. With Death, the horseman of the apocalypse, and the son of the beast this story is based on the end of the world or how characters plan to end the world. The story takes a lot of twist and turns and leaves the reader with more questions than answers, but the artwork and story keep the reader locked into the story. By the end of volume one the reader will piece together some questions and get a hint into where the story will go... more next. I do plan to pick up the next volume and read on with excitment as to what will happen next. Check it out and let me know what you think. I suggest this to fans of The Walking Dead, Southern Bastards, and fans of Westerns.
review 2: In many of Hickman's MARVEL books it almost seems as if he is trying to minimize the violence in the super-hero genre, yet in many of his IMAGE books he seems to revel in it.In this apocalyptic book he sets one depraved unlikable character against the next, ...and i can't help wanting to know what happens next! The art was also not easy for me to like at first but it definitely grew on me, and I found myself liking it quite a bit. less
