review 1: Looking at the title I suspected that it was a book about how to eat animals well. However, This book was motivated by the author's philosophical uneasiness to eat animals and his decision to feed or not feed animal product to his son. He started to investigate how animals are raised. He came to a conclusion to be very selective about what kind of animals to feed his son. I am not a vegetarian, and I do not plan to be one. I did not agree with the author's logic in some items. In any case, I had known that factory farm produced meat and meat products were bad for our health and for environment, and this book reinforced my view.
review 2: A surprise! I actually found myself swayed by an argument against eating animals....and it wasn't the usual "oh, poor
... moreanimals have feelings" argument either. It was the "look at what we are doing to the world" argument. I definitely need to look into more of the things presented as facts before I make up my mind, but kudos to the author for a level headed tone and approach.I knocked a star off because the book has a rambling, incoherent, stream-of-consciousness style. That was highly distracting. less
