review 1: I have to admit - my first reaction to this book was WTF? What woman takes a strange man home especially when she has a child with her. And everything is just lovey-dovey? I was prepared to hate the book but in the end, I didn't. She's a solid author and I think she did a good job writing from the 13-year-old narrator's perspective (though as the parent of a similarly aged boy I could have done without all the masturbation because no mother wants to go there). I think the ending was a little cheap in that things wrapped up a little too nicely. (Well as nicely as a18 years of prison and loneliness can be).
review 2: This book is more graphic than I would usually like, but it is done in a way that makes sense to the 13 year old male narrator who is trying to make
... more sense of the things going on around him and inside him. So, everything seems to come to him through a filter of sexual thought as he is trying to deal with things. But, he is a nice boy and the story is crazy but somehow believable and you root for things to work for these people who have been dealt a lot of pain. It doesn't read like a sob story though. less

It was OK - hardly worth the reviews. Easy reading, and short.
