review 1: A wonderful package of poems, information to extend the poems, and gorgeous illustrations. I enjoyed the variety of styles of poems. I appreciated the artist's note about how the art was created. I also liked the inclusion of animals from previous poems appearing other pages and the fox who appears on several spreads. I wish the fox had his own poem.The one thing really lacking is a bibliography. The author mentions her research, but nothing is cited. She did include a glossary which would be helpful for children.
review 2: This book is mesmerizing. The poems are pure and clear. The illustrations are breathtaking. The snake illustration has my kids staring for hours trying to make it all out. They are like paintings with so much dimension. The nonfiction pages ... moreare chockfull of the kind of information my students crave. Interesting facts about how animals cope with winter fill every page. This is a perfect accompaniment to my favorite winter book Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner. less
