review 1: While not as good as previous volumes, this is still a highly enjoyable read. Technically, this volume is once again, brilliant. Amazing drawings, full of detail in magnificent environments and stupendous facial expressions. Its a pleasure to just flip the pages, for such fabulous art. Its the story department that could have used some work. This time Blacksad is in the middle of the communist witch hunt but its all very loosely explored. The plot never seems to come together. The story never develops, almost like the author was unsure where it wanted it to go. The ending is both abrupt and unsatisfying and the whole volume feels a bit pointless, almost lacking a purpose in its storytelling. The “noir” element is pretty much gone and all that's left is a plot that's mo... morere of an excuse to show off the art. Blacksad is still a very likable and compelling character and he gets some development here, but he is not enough to hold the volume together. Its far less ambitious than previous entries in the series and even somewhat generic. Its still worth a read, just the art is more than enough incentive, but bellow the usual “Blacksad” standards!
review 2: Un troisième tome encore plus abouti et travaillé, qui pour moi surpasse le deuxième opus que j'avais déjà trouvé excellent.J'aime particulièrement l'utilisation de la guerre froide et la chasse aux sorcières pour le scénario, le choix des animaux pour les personnages et le travail dans leurs expressions. Et encore et toujours les références musicales cultes jazz/blues.Il va falloir que je me procure le quatrième tome... less
