review 1: Un tempo avrei definito bellissimo questo libro... un tempo questo era il mio genere di letture preferito... un tesoro da recuperare, ricerca storica, mistero... il mio pane.Oggi ho bisogno di qualcosa di più. Non so se è perchè ci sono talmente tanti libri di questo genere che ormai sono tutti uguali, e quindi mi han stufato... bisogna che sia veramente un capolavoro o passerà ai miei occhi assolutamente inosservato; oppure sono io che ho gusti più raffinati, o senso critico al limite dell'acido-da-yogurt-scaduto, chissà. Comunque questo libro non mi ha preso, a tratti interessante, a tratti banale... troppo poco. Ho nella mia libreria tanti altri libri di questo genere, anche perchè li compra e li legge mio marito, quindi mi capiteranno ancora fra le mani, e fra q... moreueste pagine virtuali. Ma io ho bisogno d'altro.Mi rendo conto che questa più che una recensione sa di esame di coscienza critica, e chiedo scusa a chi la leggerà... come scrisse qualcuno ben più illustre di me, "credete che non s'è fatto apposta".
review 2: This novel is quite compelling, a fascinating journey to find the sacred ark of the covenant - possessing the quality to evoke one's historical and archaeological interests. A fast-paced 400 page book consists of numerous, yet very short chapters causing an eager reader to drool and jump to the next page. The plot was presented with parallel events like a spider web of information from present time to another, travelling different sides of the world - creating link to finally find the answer to the riddle. The conclusion to finding the villain was tantamount and very likely in the same way - it's always the tame and harmless character that seems to create the conflict. Relevant characters were given appropriate description by introducing their past. Some of them have a better resolve than the other which is admirable. There were few pages that seemed to incriminate the Holy See that might tickle one's doubt, thus, interesting. But faith is faith, it's up to you how you handle yours. I choose to reserve my judgement. In its finality, a difficult decision had to be made. However, all is not lost forever. The fragment of truth lives... not just in a piece of stone but in our hearts and in our minds. less
