review 1: This was a very charming young adult romance. The writing was lively, full of wit and sparkle, and the teenaged heroine was very likable and engaging (as was the young hero). The book also raised some interesting issues. The heroine's parents are divorced. Her father had an affair with another woman, which caused the divorce, and is now married to that woman. The heroine has to spend the summer with her father and stepmother, as her mother is going across the country to be with a man she met online.The heroine, understandably, has a lot of negative feelings towards her stepmother. She also feels that her father has never really cared about her, and there's understandable resentment there as well. Further, she's upset with her mother. While these issues are all laid o... moreut by the author, and are very promising plot devices, there's never any real resolution. The issues just get danced around. And ultimately, there's no real ending, which was very frustrating.Even though the author writes well, and I would read other books by her, I would like to see her perhaps write longer books so that the issues she raises can be dealt with in a more substantive and meaningful way.
review 2: This was a cute story. I wasn't convinced starting off but Ally's character kept me reading. She was a funny girl, who was learning the truths of being a teenager the hard way. Her mom leaves her to live with her Dad & stepmother while she goes to live with an online boyfriend in Seattle (right!. Her stepmother Diane isn't cruel or evil, just generally clueless. Her stepsister Caroline is actually a pleasantly surprise, she was a good sister, kind and always had Ally's back. Jonathon was cute, her whole relationship with him was adorable. I didn't give the book a higher rating because it felt a little unfinished. Things weren't really resolved or had a real conclusion with her Dad, and Diane. I was surprised the book ended where it did. I thought there was still a few chapters left. But overall if you need a light funny quick read, this is one to do it. less
