review 1: I've read this several times, but I guess I forgot to leave a review. Anyway, like many of Long's books, this one is great. Both H/H are enjoyable, although I have a preference for Alex. Here's what I like: he's not conflicted--he knows what he's about and what he wants. He's seen it all, is getting older, and isn't interested in wasting anymore of his time on the foolishness of foolish people. He's not a nice man, and he doesn't pretend to be. He can be cold and dead-set on retribution (actually, this was probably the best aspect of his character. Long did a great job of having him torture Ian in a variety of well-deserved ways). The heroine is fine. She's just young and trying to figure out herself and what she wants out of life. He helps her put on her big girl pants an... mored make tough decisions. Yes, there's a significant age gap, but Long's talent is in making it realistic, without it being squicky and evoking my personal "won't someone please alert child protective services!!!" alarm, unlike other authors. And now I sit here and wait for 2015 to roll around so I can see what I'm hoping will be a most rewarding finale with Olivia and Lyon.
review 2: I like their friendship and honesty (in the beginning). I like how they let everything out in the open especially the plan of the Duke's revenge against Ian to use Genevieve and leave. He didn't have the chance to pursue that plan because Genevieve already guessed it and it was okay with her when she learned about Ian and the Duke's ex fiancee. Well, I like honesty in there! but hiding their true feelings is like a pain in the ass that needs to let known. I like how the story turns out but the ending is very very VERY much unsatisfying. :( less
