Butterfly Hunter
review 1: While this was quite a romantic read, it didn't hold up to my expectations. It makes a lovely, if awkward epilogue to "The Butterfly Hunter", which was one of my very favorite reads the year it came out. It seemed to end too abruptly, the mystery on the honeymoon felt out of place with the rest of the story. I did like the blog entries and would have liked more resolution to that and the application for citizenship, etc.
review 2: This is a difficult review to write. Butterfly Hunter was one of my favorite books of 2012, so I had high hopes for its sequel. Unfortunately, this story didn't hold the same magic for me. Whereas Butterfly Hunter had a lovely, quiet tension between Dave and Nicholas, I spent the first part of this book with a sneaking suspicion that
... morethey shouldn't get married. The story is stiff and mannered to the point of awkwardness. There's a mystery of sorts introduced during the honeymoon, but it felt arbitrarily thrown in, like the author realized there needed to be a conflict. I was bored. If there's a third book in the series, I'll definitely read it (perhaps the return to Australia will recapture what I loved about the first book), but I cannot recommend this one. less
