review 1: I've been listening to this series for the past two weeks or so and I really enjoy the narrator. The voice she uses for Oscar is especially funny; she uses a gravelly voice that makes him sound like he's been smoking cigars for centuries. This one upped the ante on violence as compared to the previous books. I just wish that Lily was better equipped to deal with these things. Maybe it's just my desire to read a lead character that can kick some ass (thanks Buffy and Katniss), but if this series continues then chanting and brewing are not going to cut it as far as I'm concerned. Also, if this series continues, I hope that Lily finally goes back to Texas and finishes her training/buries her demons. She's been alluding to her troubled past for five books now. I want to meet G... moreraciela (her grandmother) and see what their dynamic would be. I also want to see the full extent of her abilities. She keeps talking about how powerful she is and how she hasn't finished her training. Well, I think it's about that time in the series for her to graduate from witch school.
review 2: I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others in the series. The lack of Aidan and Sailor throughout the majority of the book left me with little interest in the story line. Lily does not carry the story that well on her own. Her father was not fleshed out very well, nor her prior trip to Germany. His return to her life was lacking in drama, and a lot more could have been done with his story. Even her relationship with Carlos was strained, but not for any particular bumbling through his investigation on her part. I would also add that the battle royale at the end of the story was a let down. I won't add any so called spoilers, but I thought there would be a much bigger struggle or at least a manifestation.Enough said. less
