review 1: Time travel where you go back to 1950’s Paris and slip into the body and life of a risqué burlesque dancer? Sign me up. Straight-laced Claudia Davis finds herself in an awkward predicament. Pregnant from a one night stand, Claudia is now in love with another man, a suave but kindhearted French actor she meets at her grandmother’s ballroom dancing studio, but before she gets a chance to tell him how she feels she falls and bumps her head, waking up back in time inside the body of a gorgeous young dancer accused of murdering a fellow cabaret star. Scared and desperate to get back to her old life, Claudia has just a few days to straighten everything out, or else . . . In spite of the dangers Claudia can’t help enjoying her lithe new body, the sensual pleasures of the ... moreCity of Lights, the racy dance routines she can suddenly perform, and the solicitous attention of a handsome Parisian. Dancing With Paris is written in a bright lively style that sweeps you up, allowing you to feel the swirling wind on the boulevards, see the sparkling snow on the Tour d'EIffel, and smell the buttery croissants in the boulangers. I haven’t been to 1950’s Paris so I can’t tell you if that city is accurately evoked, but either way this book version of it is a fun destination.
review 2: Dancing with Paris is a fantastic story! I really enjoyed reading it! It’s a time-travel, mystery romance! Claudia is given an unique opportunity to right a wrong done in a past life that will change things for the better in her present life when she wakes up in the body of Ruby Kerrigan. Ruby is a singer and dancer in a popular nightclub in Paris, the year 1959. With a silver haired “fairy-godmother” of sorts to give a little (very little) advice, Claudia has to figure out what the event she is there to change. It’s not an easy task to figure out because Ruby is a suspect in a murder investigation. To make matters worse, Claudia only has bits of Ruby's memories to help her out. She must navigate through Ruby’s life and try to make the right decision ... hopefully, she can make life better for herself and everyone involved.Claudia is desperate to get back to 2012 where she is pregnant with a baby girl, but while in 1959, she meets Antoine Richard and falls in love with him. I found this really interesting because I couldn’t figure out how she would keep her baby in the future and keep her love in the past. (I’m one of those people who when you’re watching a movie and the characters leave a candle burning in a room after they’ve left - I worry about it. The same applied here - I kept worrying about what was going to happen to the baby!) Well done! I love that Ruby is friends with Claudia’s grandmother in the past. Claudia gets to know what her grandmother was like when she was in her twenties! So cool! Especially, because she is very close to her grandmother in 2012.Dancing with Paris is a unique story! I loved it! This is Juliette Sobanet’s fourth novel. She writes about what she loves most, Paris! I highly recommend reading it! Declaimer: I was given an e-copy of this book for my honest review. less
