A Liss MacCrimmon Mystery
review 1: This is a murder mystery set amidst the backdrop of a newly renovated historical hotel in Maine; a meeting of the Scottish Heritage Appreciation Society draws people to the hotel. And a heavy snowstorm hits, that traps everyone at the hotel- guests, staff, owners alike. And then the body is found in a little used storage room. You will enjoy the byplay with the staff, the guests the Maine locals as they sort out the who-what-where and when of the murder. This was a light read.
review 2: I had fallen behind in reading this delicious series by Kaitlyn Dunnett. So, I ordered the book I had missed and pre-ordered her next volume. Good for me. I loved the book as I sensed I would. The corpse did, in fact, wear it's family tartan and so the tie in to the title was
... more perfect and from that instance to the ending, I enjoyed my reading journey. You are not overwhelmed with all things Scottish and I noticed that the Author struck a better balance between Scotland and Maine, which to my thinking, improved the quality of the book immensely.Liss, our sleuth, and female heroin, is busy helping her boyfriend, Dan and his Father, Joe host the local annual "Burns Night Supper." This is crucial for the newly re-opened hotel, and also a very serious event for Scottish societies. To add to the pressure, the weather is storming and only getting worse. Thus we have the set-up for the crime scene.Ms. Dunnett paints for us readers a vivid scene with colors, music (Scotland the Brave,) and food, oh the Haggis must be piped in... A broach goes missing. A valuable broach. Odd that, but I'm not going to tell you why. Oh no, you must read it for yourselves. Then, as promised in the title, a corpse is found. The entire party is snow-locked in the hotel without electricity (other than generators,) plenty of food and drink and spirit! This book was just a joy to read and has made me want to re-read the entire series. Join me! (Perhaps not the Haggis though.) less

Disappointing. Not my cup of tea thus it took me forever to plough thru to the end. Yikes.

Either this book was SUPER predictable or I'm turning into a real-life Miss Marple...

A good book to take to the beach. Not riveting, but I've certainly read worse.
