review 1: I am SO GLAD this was an option! Now, before you look at this and say, "Ew, romance novels..." I must say this. I am not a fan of romance novels because I am a reader who prefers 19th century French literature above all else...unless it is Poe or Shakespeare. Yes! I adore Clockwork Orange and Catch-22 and Slaughterhouse 5 and Karen Moning! So why is a 7 book romance series on my favorites shelf? BECAUSE THEY WERE THAT GOOD! Moning webs this BEAUTIFUL, complex web through 7 books she later uses as a back story for the Fever series. I prefer the Highlander series to the Fever series because I love the amount of Celtic myth. Yes, there's love, but not really the point! Adam Black is a deep, unpredictable, complex character that ties all seven books together and kick... more starts the Fever series. I read a chapter to my husband while skipping over the ooey-gooey girl emotions and the sex and just read him the dialogue and descriptive scenes. He loved it! Moning writes very well! Her stories are filled with depth and humor. Her heroines are intelligent, down to earth women with standards! She does not write the flaky, shallow Disney Damsel in Distress! Her women are NEVER in distress! Well...nothing they can't get themselves out of on their own. Honestly, these books read more like a light fantasy novel with a lot of Celtic myth.
review 2: Ok, let me be clear. This series is straight trash (in case you couldn't deduce that from the book covers). Like, there is no literary award here other than, "The Steamy Trash" award. But if there WAS an award for steamy trash, this series would win. SOOO much better than Fifty Shades, although completely unrealistic and it takes a couple of books for the writing to get to a decent level. The best one is "Kiss of the Highlander", though I like all of the stories that involve Drustan and Daegus. less
