Bink & Gollie
review 1: This book is about Bink and Gollie, two girls that are opposites, but have an extraordinary friendship. This book includes three short stories about the girls and showcases the ways that they get along despite their differences. They complement each other in a wonderful way, and this book does a great job of showing the idea that just because two people are different doesn't mean they can't be friends, it may even be better that they're not exactly alike! I would recommend this book for children between the ages of 8 and 11. This had some difficult vocabulary, but overall conceptually would be great for that age group. I would also try to incorporate it into a lesson about friendship and differences.

... more: Candlewick Press.Choice BookTransitionalDesigned in short chapter format with large comic-llke illustrations and few words per pages, "Bink & Gollie" is a great selection for a new reader to use as a move toward chapter books. Illustrations support the text quite well. The few instances where sophisticated vocabulary is used in the story, will not cause the reader to lose any overall meaning if they cannot decode the words, but may require the reader to seek support and explanation when the words are encountered. The familiar themes of friendship and compromise will appeal to all ages. Jowever, this book would most likely be best enjoyed by ages 5-10. less
