review 1: This is a superlative ghost story. Mosse's descriptions of the Ariège, located in the far southwest of France, are hauntingly beautiful and made me want to go there immediately. While the twist in the tale is not exactly difficult to work out, the story is well crafted and feels very cosy. It's also quite short - I read it in pretty much one day - so it's definitely one for curling up with on a cold, dark wintry day and devouring in one go.

With the typical flair of Kate Mosse, the places in France both in the 1920s and 30s and in the Cathar times in the year of 1329. S
... morehe has a gift of descriptive language. I found myself watching the story and not just reading words. I could see Freddie on his travels and his encounter with Fabrissa. I was sad to let the story go but at the same at peace with the place Freddie was by the end of his story. A wonderful read that seems especially appropriate with this year being the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WWI. less
