review 1: A historic mystery which is been given by a good sense of the epoque, with a Bronte style (the damned Johnathan) where maybe it could be real in an earlier age (i.e. in Borgias) but here, well, I found it somehow, so soapopera style. Nice story, likely (and unlikely) characteres, it is a book you can spent your night (wondering what is the truth, what will happen next), but nothing more. I still find Dickens greater writer, whatever.
review 2: This book started out slow for me. I had no idea where it was going really and there were so many tings left unsaid, many things left in darkness. In the end, of course, I know that this is what this book is about - partly. What I really love about this story is how it shows what lies can do to a person, a couple, a lov... moree story. I must admit Starling got on my nerves a couple of times, because she just refused to see. Then again I'm also impressed with her character. All in all, I did not think I'd enjoy this book this much. A great read. less
