review 1: Tema cartii e foarte bine aleasa, urmand exemplul lui Tracy Chevalier, cel mai probabil scriitoarea mea preferata, de a recrea o poveste si o atmosfera din lumea artei. In schimb insa, Kathryn nu reuseste sa creeze un personaj complet, ii pune in carca multe drame si nelinisti, dar nu ii explica complexitatea cat sa para credibil. In multe pasaje expediaza mult prea repede si necizelat o drama, stilul de scriitura nu ma convinge deloc si nu gaseste cuvintele adecvate pentru a se exprima.Cartea mi-a dat impresia unei mari teme care a cazut in maini nepotrivite, fiind tratata cu mai putin decat merita.
review 2: I was so hoping to get a better sense of Degas by reading this novel, but that didn't happen. So disappointing.... It really was the story of a young gi... morerl from a poor rural area in France who goes to Paris to become a "prima ballerina". Along the way she meets Degas and is one of his models. Her goal is two-fold, first to become a prima ballerina and second to secure her future with a successful man to support her. Will Degas be this man? You'll have to read to find out... but don't expect to leave knowing much more about Degas than you likely already know. Do expect to see the inside values/structure of the Paris Ballet scene. less
