review 1: I couldn't stand the writing style but was intrigued by the story idea - a group of woman advertised for husbands so that they could save their investments in a mining town. Some funny moments but I'm still surprised I actually finished the book. The writing drove me crazy because I kept thinking that there was no way a man or woman would have running dialogues like these two main characters. It was painfully and hilariously stilted.
review 2: I found this to be a really fun book. The characters are fun, the plot is interesting, but not so overly involved to keep it from being a relaxing read. The author kept much of the descriptions to what the characters where thinking and feeling instead of what they were seeing, so this was a big plus for me as well, and ... morekept the book moving along.Though this is Christian fiction, there weren't any religious views shared. This, too, was a plus for me. Good clean book with characters that are moral, but don't go so far into religious views as to alienate readers by taking sides on finer points of doctrine. Bottom line: Though I only get books from the library, I'm going to buy the second in the series because my library system doesn't have it. I enjoyed getting to know the ladies in the first book and want to see how successful they are in their endeavors. less
