review 1: 4.5 - 4.6So I try to wait a day or two before moving onto the next book in a given series, but I lasted all but a few hours before I gleefully moved onto Book two of this.Where to start? Well it's urban fantasy (romance) and a delicious roller coaster of emotions. It's truly got much of everything I desire in these sorts of books; vibrant world building with just enough detail, smoothly and naturally implemented in the story, not to mention hot possessive, cutely jealous men (oh my!) I tend to gravitate to any books with those mentioned traits, but the Black faerie/demon heroine, all the diversity, + interracial & moc romance's what got me picking this up!This book is super exciting. I swept through it in hardly 1 night and 1 day easily. It's just so well-written and keeps... more your interest peaked at every second. Plus the perfect intermingling of suspense and heat and humor had me laughing one moment then in stunned shock the next as someone ends up dead/burned alive and so on.I love a book that can get me to physically react, smirking or gasping or holding in my laughter, and this book has definitely done it.I only wish it were longer, not that I felt it ended too soon, and while there were high elements of danger and risk, a little more manifestations of such would've made this perfect. And though i'm all for my possessive, jealous dudes, a couple things ticked me off, but more in a like *snorts, oh please boy!* way but the heroine set those men in place, so all was well. A while there was def. romance paired with the sensual, another layer of depth and an emotional connection explored, especially with Zulu (whose like the nice guy outta this tho both men are plenty intense and enthralling; i'm torn!).Overall, good stuff! The author knew what she was doing, weaving and winding us down a path of mystery, sensuality, and humor, and i'm glad she did it.Now back to "The Burning Bush" I go! Great continuity in this, btw. devils in those details!
review 2: In Fire Baptized the paranormal characters of shapeshifters, witches, vampires and demons which readers are all familiar with are now perverted representations, as Kenya Wright's story is new and original. When I started this book I had recently finished several paranormal mysteries, but I admit that I found I was absorbed from the first page of Fire Baptized. This was mainly due to Kenya Wright's face-paced style and imaginative descriptions which made the world of the Habitats come alive! From the first murder I admit I was anxious and the author succeeds in building the fear and suspense, even until the point when the reader thinks they have everything figured out (or not!).Fire Baptized is also a love triangle (UGH!) but somehow Kenya Wright makes this work . . .maybe it is because her characters are so alive or because really the reader knows only one of the men has her heart . . . Lanore is a fire witch, but she is strong, feisty and has a killer sense of humour. MeShack is a WereLeopard and Lanore's best friend, with history! When they were little MeShack was tested on by Lanore's father and so in his Were form he becomes 'fire baptized'. MeShack is arrogant but well-meaning and very protective of Lanore.Zulu, on the other hand, is a 'Mixie', meaning he is the son of a shapeshifter mother and a Faery father. He has a very powerful 'beast', unlike any other, and has cords spelled into his body to control its release. He is a fighter for 'Mixie' freedom, very masculine and loves Lanore.I really enjoyed the way Kenya Wright weaves the paranormal, mystery, suspense and romance in Fire Baptized and this was a book I could easily read in one sitting. I am really excited about reading the Habitats sequel, The Burning Bush. less
