review 1: This series is right on the edge of being boring at times, it feels like Riley is in a never ending horror flick, with things from book one still very much in play in book 8 and I am sure in 9 as well. This book in particular I wanted to flat out quit reading at several intervals, only the need to see how it ends kept me from doing so. I hate Kye, like everyone else, but I find Riley being very dumb in this particular book, its like the author has forgotten how Riley is supposed to act. I mean we have a woman who has several abilities, connections to several unhumans and the entire Directorate, not to mention a twin brother and she can't get rid of one guy? Really?
review 2: This series is so inconsistent! But this one had a plot that didn't stop and it serious
... morely moved the overall arc, so my dislike for the author's taking the easy choices on characterization was easier to ignore. The next one is the last in the series, and then I don't know if this author will ever make it to my reading pile again. She's got a good sense for overall arc and plot but her pacing is wildly inconsistent and her characters in this series frequently lack integrity; not in the moral sense, but in the sense that there are a lot of convenient changes of heart and newly revealed powers and whatever else they need at the time, instead of having them have to deal with their situation with existing resources and characteristics. Frustrating, cause she's a compelling writer overall. less

4.5 stars! It was that ending that knocked my socks off. It was full of betrayal, sadness and love.
