review 1: I like these books. They're sort of cozy-ish murder mysteries set in Ghana, with a pot-smoking detective named Darko Dawson. If you like the Number 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series, these might be of interest. I enjoy reading about the Ghanaian settings--stopping for a bite of kelewele on the street and a cold bottle of Malta later on, the insane Accra traffic, the road to Cape Coast. Light but fun reading.
review 2: I'd give this book a 2.5. I bought this book drawn by the exotic Ghanaian setting. But as a novel, it was extremely dull. Too many uninteresting characters. It was hard to keep track. This is a murder mystery. Having read the first chapter at a local bookstore, I was expecting a page turner. But it's far from that.
